Halloween Costume Checked Off Your List?

The countdown to Halloween is on. Kids everywhere are thinking Halloween costumes, candy and trick-or-treating fun.

Within minutes of my five year old seeing the first day of October on the calendar, he told my husband, "We'll go trick or treating when you get home from work!" That was fun explaining he had another 30 days to go.

I make sure we spread the Halloween fun out over the month with non-scary Halloween activities. We pick out our family Halloween costumes, curl up together for a family movie night to watch It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and continue the ghost and pumpkin tree tradition my mom and I started when I was a kid.

But it was no surprise when my son announced on day two of October that he knew what he was going to be for Halloween -- a "Snoopy scarecrow carrying a pumpkin with a ghost in it." He also decided on the costume for his little brother, which (conveniently for me) is simply Woodstock.

Okay, so the little one is easy. Woodstock. Mommy's got that one covered.

Now I've got to figure out how to make a Snoopy scarecrow carrying a pumpkin with a ghost in it and what exactly that means to a 5 year old's imagination. Ah, the good old days of Halloweens when I dressed him as a puppy and he had no say because he couldn't talk are gone. Of course, I'm joking and I love that he's picked out my all-time favorite characters for this year's Halloween costume theme.
