Gymboree's music classes divide children into age groups to teach everything from musical styles to rhythm through musical instruments. One family class is open to children between 6 months and 5 years old. Music classes through Gymboree can be pricey versus some of the other options on this list. Check with your local Gymboree for pricing because costs do vary by location.

Kindermusik

With the most varied course selection, Kindermusik breaks its music classes into several age groups. There are music classes just for babies, toddlers, school-age children and also a mixed age class for bigger families. Programs are designed for newborns up to children 7 years old. Instructors set their own rates for each course so you can shop around to find a price that works for you.

Melody Hounds

The Melody Hounds music program is a companion to the PBS children's series, Lomax: The Hound of Music. Classes are typically available at YMCAs and local libraries. This is one of the most affordable music classes for parents on a tight budget. Ages welcome are infants up to children eight years old, depending on each location's rules.

The Music Class offers a few courses within its early music education curriculum. Sessions are geared toward newborns up to children age 8. A mixed age class is also available for babies up to children 5 years old. Other classes are open to children up to seven years old. Tuition is based on the type of music classes you choose.

Music Together

Music Together class selection is limited but programs are available for babies up to "big kids." Music classes are designed for newborns through kids six years of age. A mixed age class covers children from birth to four years old. Each Music Together center sets its own class rates. Comparing prices among locations in your area could save your family money.

Musikgarten

Musikgarten is a nine-year program developed by the founder of Kindermusik. Classes begin with babies and work up to keyboard lessons for children between 7 and 9 years old. Instructors set their own session costs so the same music classes may be offered at a lower rate down the street. Research Musikgarten teachers in your area to find the best price for your budget.

Yamaha Music School

If you're looking for a long-term, more intense music program that teaches children how to play keyboard, compose music and perform in recitals, Yamaha Musical School may be the right choice for your family. Students attend a class for one to four years and then graduate to the next level's curriculum. Courses are open to children between 3 and 9 years old with Canada offering a course for two year olds as well.
