Subjects I tweet that I wouldn't discuss in person

I don't tweet anything that I would not discuss in person. Neither my blog nor my Twitter account is anonymous, so I make sure my mom won't cringe too much when she reads.

How Twitter has helped me as a mom

Twitter is a great way to connect with like-minded moms, and it was very helpful for me when I first started to blog. It's easy to find others by using Twitter's hashtags (for example, I often Tweet using the #breastfeeding, #toddlers, #parenting, #CarNatPar, and #moms hashtags).

What I have learned from other moms on Twitter

Moms can be incredibly witty, poignant, educational, or compassionate using only 140 characters or less. Moms want to help, connect, and share information and experiences. If you do not have a local community of moms to lean on, try connecting with some on Twitter - not only will you find moms who love to help, but you might also find resources in your own city that you did not know existed.

Advice

  • As with any social networking site, try to be as polite and civilized as if you were having a conversation face to face.
  • Remember that you can't get the whole story or a person's true emotions in a few tweets.
  • Give others the benefit of the doubt.
  • Read a little bit about Twitter etiquette, check a few other people out to learn the ropes, and then have fun!
