How often I update my Twitter status

A few times a day during the week; rarely on the weekends.

The most memorable tweet I sent or received

One I sent: "I keep finding Outhouse Santa (http://bit.ly/5kHhAg) turned to the wall. I guess one of my children feels he needs some privacy."

How Twitter has helped me as a mom

I'm frequently home alone with my kids and Twitter is a nice way to feel like I'm part of an adult conversation. I can throw out a question about my kid's behavior or health and get quick, helpful answers (plus sympathy). I also use Twitter to encourage people to read my blog or other online writing.

What I have learned from other moms on Twitter

I follow tons of links on Twitter--it's a great way to find interesting, relevant, important reads online. I also get a lot of breaking news from Twitter, when people start mentioning big events. I even follow my kid's school district and got a tweet the night before a snow day.

Advice

  • You don't have to follow everyone who follows you (but also don't expect everyone you follow to follow you back).
  • Use Tweetdeck or another desktop app to manage your Twitter feeds--it saves time.
  • Check blogs you like to see if their authors Tweet. If they do, follow; then look at who they follow to find other smart and funny twitterers.
  • Be generous and friendly. Participate in conversations--don't just throw out your tweets and expect others to hang on your every word.
