At the top of your pillowcase, where the seams meet, separate the fabric. Use your scissors to carefully cut a hole on the inside of the pillowcase.
You'll want to cut a hole close to the center of the pillowcase toward the top. Don't cut the hole too close to the top edge, though. The handles will be more sturdy if you cut the holes closer to the seam.
Cut a total of four holes. Two on the inside of the pillowcase for each side.
