Clothing Exempt from New Mexico Sales Tax

Clothing must be under $100 for:

  • Gloves and Mittens (general use - dress, winter and leather)
  • Graduation Caps and Gowns
  • Hosiery
  • Jackets
  • Jeans
  • Jerseys (not athletic wear)
  • Jogging Apparel

  • Pants
  • Ponchos
  • Rain Coats, Rain Hats and Ponchos

Footwear Exempt from New Mexico Sales Tax

Footwear must cost under $100 and only these types of shoes are eligible:

  • Running Shoes (non-cleated)

School Supplies Exempt from Sales Tax

School supplies $15 or less per item qualify. Nontaxable school supplies include:

Taxable Items

Hair accessories, sporting goods, computer scanners, fax machines and handheld organizers do not qualify for the tax free weekend. The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department has compiled a list of guidelines for taxable transactions.
